Sugarcane Grille
About This Spot
Perched atop the Bunker Hill Hotel in Charlotte Amalie, Sugarcane Grille offers a quietly inviting retreat from the island’s hustle and bustle. The first step across its threshold is a gentle shift in pace—a laid-back, almost unhurried rhythm that encourages you to breathe a little deeper and savor the moment. With its tucked-away location and rooftop terrace, this spot feels like a secret corner where locals and travelers alike can gather beneath open skies, framed by the glow of a St. Thomas sunset.
The atmosphere invites easy conversations, the kind that drift naturally over handcrafted cocktails and plates full of vivid, Caribbean-inspired flavors. Here, dishes aren’t just served, they arrive with a sense of care—freshly prepared and thoughtfully seasoned, balancing island traditions with approachable American comfort. Whether you choose a tangy jerk-spiced bite or a creamy, tropical-infused curry, there’s a shared sense of discovery in every mouthful.
Staff members create a quietly attentive rhythm around the tables, offering smiles that feel sincere and a genuine desire to make guests comfortable. The rhythm of the service is unhurried, mirroring the island’s easygoing vibe, and while the kitchen takes its time to craft each dish, the experience never feels rushed. Sitting out on the terrace, it’s easy to lose track of time as you take in the gentle sea breeze and the panoramic views of the harbor below.
It’s the kind of place that doesn’t shout for attention but grows on you—the kind of humble standout that feels more like stumbling upon a friend’s well-kept secret than just another stop on a tourist map. Sugarcane Grille’s warmth lies not only in its food and drink but in the natural ease with which it draws people into a shared moment, quietly celebrating the island’s diverse flavors and welcoming spirit.

The reviews in general for food on the island are inflated in my opinion and this is the only one that didn’t disappoint. The food was great, prices are reasonable compared to other places there and the service was great. Cash was very friendly and made us nice drinks.

Came twice for dinner and both times were amazing. Fresh ingredients and dishes made to order. However; this can lead to somewhat longer wait times, but if you dont mind then its defintely worth it. We tried jerk chicken wings, lemon pepper shrimp, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, jerk pork, French fries, ribeye, Mac and cheese, coconut sorbet, and mango passionfruit cheesecake. All the food was spectacular and not an exaggeration. Parking is scarce so might need to park down the hill and walk. The resturant is located on the 3rd floor next to the pool of the hotel. Seating is limited so if you are a big group or coming in later definitely call and make a reservation.

Sugarcane Grille was a great find in St. Thomas. There was no wait, the food was very good, and the service was attentive and friendly from start to finish. It is tucked away a bit, so it would be easy to miss, but that just adds to the charm. If you are looking for a relaxed spot with solid food and good service, this is definitely worth stopping into.

A hidden gem! We wouldn't know about the restaurant if we didn't sleep in the hotel next door. Amazing staff! They make sure everybody is comfortable, including concerns of noise levels and temperature. Nice balcony seating with a view. Excellent food and strong cocktails. Be prepared for a lot of stairs since you need to pass by the hotel reception and climb up to the terrace.

Delicious! I ordered the seared scallops as an appetizer ($18), a glass of Chardonnay ($12), and the steakhouse salad ($28) for my entree. Everything was superb! Outdoor rooftop dining with a beautiful view of the island sunset at 6pm. Service was so kind and attentive (thank you, Brian). Wait time was a little longer than expected, but the meal was absolutely worth a few minutes extra. Parking is tough, the road is narrow, and the restaurant isn't conspicuous or mobility friendly, but I still highly recommend it!

This restaurant on top of a hotel has the most beautiful views of the hills and water, amazing service (shoutout to Laverne) and amazing food. We shared the calamari and jerk chicken wings for appetizers. And then devoured the coconut lobster curry and the peppercorn steak. We highly recommend this place.

The food and service was super great. Remember to ask for mila if hot spicy is not your thing. I would recommend booking ahead and ask for a balconi side table. The view is spectacular. The owner and his staff are awesome too.
